Qatar’s Al-Sadd wants to make Abel Ferreira, currently at Palmeiras, the highest paid coach in the world.
According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, the negotiations are “at a very advanced stage and will be completed within fifteen days” when Brasiliarão ends. Argentinean Diego Simeone (Atlético Madrid) earns about 40 million euros annually and is by far the top paid coach in the world, well ahead of Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) with 22 million annually. If the signing is completed, Abel Ferreira will earn eight times what he currently earns at Verdau (5 million euros per year).
The 44-year-old Portuguese coach continues to fight for the Brazilian title, but has already admitted that he may not complete his contract, which ends in December next year.
The coach has been coaching Palmeiras since November 2020 and with the Brazilian club has already won the championship, two Libertadores, the Brazilian Cup, the Brazilian Super Cup and the Recopa of South America. Abel was recently appointed to Benfica to replace German Roger Schmidt.
