Oscar Pistorius will be released from prison 10 years after he shot his girlfriend

This Friday, the BBC reports that former South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, serving a prison sentence for the death of his girlfriend in 2013, will be released on January 5 next year, leaving him on parole.

Pistorius, 37, a double amputee, was sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison in 2017 when he shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day, later saying he believed it was a crime.

While Reeva Steenkamp’s mother was not opposed to Pistorius’ release, she expressed doubts about the former athlete’s “angry episodes”, questioning whether they were actually treated during his time in prison.

Recall that in March, Oscar Pistorius, who was a Paralympic champion in the 200 meters in Athens in 2004 and in the 100, 200 and 400 meters in Beijing in 2008, and also won a silver medal in the 200 meters in London in 2012 and bronze in the 100 meters in Athens in 2004 – the application for parole was rejected.
