The IFAB (International Football Association Board) is looking into upgrading the training of video referees (VARs) so they can start analyzing corners, free kicks and second yellow cards, reports Time.
Football’s rules body is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss the new rules. However, no final decision will be made following the meeting.
At the moment, VAR can only be used in more important cases of the game, such as penalties, goals or red cards.
One of the biggest criticisms of VAR is the delay it causes in games. For this reason, this new feature has caused great controversy. ABOUT Sun admits that with these changes, meetings will turn into “two-hour marathons.”
Another change was recently made to combat excessive player protests. The measure, also reported by an English newspaper, concerns the possibility of footballers being suspended for 10 minutes for “bad behavior.”
