Vegetable oil and alcheiras will become part of the list of products subject to the interim VAT rate, no longer subject to the 23% rate, according to the proposed amendment to PS OE2024 approved on Tuesday.
In the case of vegetable oil, the PS justifies this measure by the fact that in recent months and until the end of this year, this product is exempt from VAT, since it is included in the group of food products in the zero VAT basket, which will return it to the 23% rate from January.
“Recognizing the consumption of direct edible vegetable oils and their mixtures (edible oils) by Portuguese households, it is envisaged that they will be subject to a reduced VAT rate of 13% instead of the applicable 23% after the end of the transitional VAT exemption rule. [cabaz do IVA zero]”, says the proposal presented on Tuesday.
This measure became possible during the fourth day of debate and voting on the state budget 2024 (OE2024) with a vote of all parties, with the exception of the PKP and PSD, which chose to abstain.
The same proposal also places alheiras in the interim VAT rate table, in which case the PAN voted against and the PSD abstained.
Thus, from January, the list of products subject to the intermediate VAT rate will include “aleurs in animal or synthetic casings, made from bread, consisting of meat (pork, poultry, rabbit, hare, partridge) or other type of filling and preserved during the smoking process.” .
