Heavy rain placed seven mainland areas and Madeira under a yellow warning on Thursday.

Seven areas of the mainland and the island of Madeira will be under a yellow warning on Thursday due to forecast spells of rain, sometimes heavy and prolonged, IPMA said.

The areas of Évora, Setubal, Lisbon and Beja will be under warning from 3:00 to 15:00 on Thursday, Santarem and Portalegre from 6:00 to 15:00 and Faro from 12:00 to 18:00.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has also issued a yellow warning for the north coast, south coast and mountainous areas of Madeira Island from 6am to 3pm on Thursday due to the forecast for periods of rain or showers, heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.

A yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.

This Wednesday the continent will generally expect very cloudy weather, periods of rain that will be more frequent and intense in the highlands of the north and center and less likely in the Algarve, light to moderate winds and a slight rise in temperatures, especially lows.

The minimum temperature will range from 10 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) to 16 degrees Celsius (in Faro), and the maximum temperature will range from 13 (in Guarda) to 21 (in Faro).

The Madeira Archipelago as a whole is expected to experience very cloudy weather, periods of rain, especially on the southern slopes and in the highlands, light to moderate winds, strong in the highlands, and a slight increase in minimum temperatures.

In Funchal the temperature will range from 20 to 24 degrees, and in Porto Santo from 19 to 24 degrees.
