This Wednesday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the islands in the central and eastern groups of the Azores under a yellow warning level due to forecasts of sometimes heavy rain, thunderstorms, wind and rough seas.
The islands of the Eastern group (Santa Maria and São Miguel) are under a yellow warning for rainfall, sometimes heavy and possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, from 11:05 local time (12:05 in Lisbon) this Wednesday. and 6:00 a.m. local time (7:00 a.m. in Lisbon) on Thursday.
For these two Azores islands, IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for winds blowing in a northeasterly direction from 21:00 local time (22:00 in Lisbon) this Wednesday until 12:00 local time (13:00 in Lisbon ) on Thursday.
The islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria are also expected to experience rough seas and waves from the northwest, so a yellow warning has been issued from 00:00 local time (01:00 in Lisbon) to 12:00 local time (13 :00 in Lisbon) on Thursday.
For the central group (Terceira, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa and Faial), the IPMA has issued a yellow warning for precipitation, sometimes heavy, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms, from 15:00 local time (16:00 in Lisbon) this Wednesday until 00 :00 (01:00 in Lisbon) on Thursday.
A yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
