This Thursday, between 0:00 and 12:00, 72 incidents related to bad weather were reported in mainland Portugal, with the regions of Coimbra, Lisbon and Setubal most affected, a civil protection source told Lusa.
A source from the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) clarified that the most serious incidents are related to floods, falling trees and road clearing due to heavy rains.
Operations Officer Jose Costa also said that a new assessment would be made in the middle of the day, given that the weather worsened after 12:00.
The operations involved 231 operatives, supported by 81 land units.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) today raised the warning level to orange in the areas of Lisbon, Setubal and Santarem due to the forecast of periods of rain, sometimes heavy and prolonged.
The warnings are in effect from 13:28, valid until 15:00 in the districts of Lisbon and Santarem and until 18:00 in Setúbal.
Five areas are currently under yellow warning: Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora and Faro, all due to a forecast of rain, sometimes heavy and persistent, that will last until midnight on Friday.
On Wednesday, Civil Protection warned of the possibility of floods, landslides and slippery floors due to forecasts of rain, wind and snowfall at the highest points of the Serra da Estrela.
