The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, was pleased with the progress of infrastructure preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 this Friday after visiting the Olympic Village.
“Not only me, but also other members of the IOC executive committee, we are very happy, very satisfied with the Village and the level of training,” he said.
For Bach, it’s “always a great time to be in the Village” because that’s where the athletes will be, “the heart of the Games beats,” given that what they saw was “spectacular, compact, very pragmatic.”
In the Saint-Denis area, on an area of almost 300 thousand square meters, buildings have already been practically built that will accommodate more than 14 thousand people during the Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
Organizing committee president Tony Estanguet expects the keys to the Olympic Village to be handed over in March, ensuring that deadlines will be “fully respected”.
Regarding the possibility of Russian athletes participating in Paris 2024, Bach said that this issue was not considered by the executive committee, which met in recent days in Paris.
The leader said that an Olympic summit is planned in Lausanne, at which “the geopolitical situation and its impact on sports will be studied.”
Bach said that depending on what is said at that summit, the executive committee will make a decision in the coming months, with a meeting scheduled for March.
