Air traffic at Munich Airport was temporarily suspended until midday (local time) due to heavy snowfall, which also affected rail services in southern Germany.
“Due to continued heavy snowfall, flights will be suspended this Saturday until 12:00. [11h00 GMT]. We strongly recommend that you check the status of your flight with your airline before heading to the airport,” the airport in the capital of the German state of Bavaria said on its website.
Snowfall has already caused the cancellation of 320 of the 760 flights scheduled for this Saturday, after about 160 flights were canceled on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, German rail company Deutsche Bahn (DB) said on social media X that “rail services in southern Germany are limited due to heavy snow” and recommends postponing trips to and from the Bavarian capital.
Public transport, with the exception of the metro, has also stopped operating in Munich due to snowplows being unable to remove fresh snow.
