England are drawn into a group with Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia at the 2024 European Championships as they bid for their first major men’s trophy in 58 years.
The Three Lions return to Gelsenkirchen, the site of one of their most famous heartbreaks – and an infamous mention of Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2006 World Cup – when they begin their campaign on June 16. Further group games will take place on June 20 in Frankfurt and June 25 in Dusseldorf.
Gareth Southgate’s men have already received serious support. Since they are placed in Group C, if they qualify for the knockout stages, they will only be able to play the other group winner in the semi-finals.
Scotland, meanwhile, face a difficult schedule, starting with Germany on the opening day before facing Hungary and Switzerland. After nearly a quarter of a century of failing to qualify for the European Championship, Steve Clarke’s side have now managed to win back-to-back championships – and given Germany’s chaotic form since the last World Cup, there may be a smell of blood here.
Wales will have to wait a little longer to find out their fate, with the knockout stages not until March, but when they get there they will face a nightmare group of the Netherlands, Austria and France.
Germany is the host country and the final will take place on July 14, 2024 in Berlin.
England were eliminated from Pot 1 and entered the top five qualifiers along with Germany, who earned an automatic place.
