The rain of the last few days has not affected the storage capacity of the Baixo Alentejo and Algarve dams, with four reservoirs at minimum levels: Arade (14%), Monte da Rocha (8%), Bravura (7%) and Campillas. (6%). By region, the situation is most difficult in the Algarve, where the highest volume is at the Funcho dam – 33%.
The situation in the North is completely different. A bulletin from the Portuguese Environment Agency states that dams in the Cavado Basin are at 88.4% capacity; in Ava – 81% and in Douro – 79.5%. The national storage average is 72%.
Compared to the average of the last 30 years, values are lower than normal for this time of year in the Mondego, Sado, Guadiana, Mira, Ribeiras do Algarve and Arad basins. Of the 60 reservoirs, 15 have water availability above 80%, namely Castelo de Bode on the Zézere River with 84.8%. In turn, at Alqueva, a dam that holds about a third of the water stored in Portugal, the volume is 70.5%.
