At least 85 civilians mistakenly killed in military attack in Nigeria

At least 85 civilians were killed and 66 injured Sunday night when military air raids in northern Nigeria “accidentally” attacked a site celebrating a religious holiday, authorities said on Tuesday.

The air operation was aimed at “terrorists” camped in Nigeria’s Kaduna state, but military forces “accidentally” attacked the town of Tudun Biri, the regional office of the National Emergency Management Agency said in a statement.

Some states in Nigeria, especially in the center and north-west of the country, are regularly attacked by “bandits” – a term used in the country to describe gangs of criminals who commit mass robberies and kidnappings for huge ransoms and are sometimes called “terrorists” ” “by the authorities.

Amnesty International Nigeria said on Monday that 120 people were killed in the attack, citing reports from its staff and volunteers in the area.

“Many of them were children [e] more bodies are being discovered,” Isa Sanusi, the organization’s director in Nigeria, told The Associated Press.
