The Chamber of Oeiras on Tuesday began repairing a pipeline on the Alges River that collapsed last week and caused the subsidence of a public road near Largo Augusto Madureira in Miraflores, the municipality said on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the municipality, the renovations have the “goal of restoring safety and normal circulation” and there is “no structural risk to the surrounding residential buildings.”
In the note, the municipal council of Oeiras emphasizes that it has already warned the government “of the urgent need for a deep structural intervention in the Ribeira de Alges pipeline to increase the flow section to the mouth” and meetings are planned with the Ministry of the Environment.
The pipeline collapse occurred on November 28 and, as Lusa discovered on site that day, left a hole about three meters in size, but did not cause any injuries or property damage.
Oeiras Civil Defense isolated the site shortly after the incident, and the council has carried out cleanup and containment work in the area over the past week.
