Fans of eight French clubs were banned from traveling over the weekend after the incidents

This Friday, the French government decided to ban fans of eight clubs from traveling to the French Championship and French Cup matches this weekend, following incidents recorded in recent months.

In an order published this Friday, the French Ministry of the Interior defined fans of Lens, Bordeaux, Nimes, Auxerre, Toulouse, Reims, Nantes and Marseille as those who do not can participate in the trips of his teams.

The published document stressed that this measure aims to “avoid all serious risks to the safety of persons and property” which, in its opinion, exist in the games of the teams in question.

“Since the beginning of 2023 and the League and French Cup season, the movements of football club fans have very often become a source of disturbances due to the aggressive behavior of some of them,” he explains.

The most recent incident occurred on Saturday when a Nantes fan was killed in clashes with Nice fans. Earlier in October, a game between Marseille and Lyon was postponed after a Lyon bus was stoned, injuring Fabio Grosso, the team’s coach at the time.
