The Gondomar court began this Friday trying Vitor Catao, a Porto fan, for the alleged kidnapping of businessman César Boaventura (with ties to Benfica) in 2019. At the hearing, Cesar Boaventura reached an agreement with the defendant and resigned from the court. the complaints he filed. In return, Katao and his accomplice will have to pay 15 thousand euros to two organizations chosen by the victim: the Benfica Foundation and the Barroselas Association. The defendants continue to be charged with kidnapping and aggravated coercion, which are public crimes.
Boaventura said that Catao lured him to the San Pedro da Cova stadium, claiming he had orders to hand him over to Luis Filipe Vieira, Benfica’s then president. He said that when he got there, the defendant got into his car, took a gun and told him: “You will say whatever I say.” For his part, Vitor Catao acknowledged everything in the video posted on social media, but told the judge that he was unarmed.
