The Turkish Football League will resume on December 19 after being suspended due to an attack on a referee

The Turkish championship, suspended after an attack on a referee on Monday, will resume on December 19, the president of the country’s Football Federation (TFF) said.

“All leagues will resume on Tuesday, December 19,” said Mehmet Büyükeksi, president of the organization, who on the night of Monday to Tuesday announced the postponement of all championship games that had been resumed without a set date.

The director clarified that the 16th round, which was originally supposed to take place from Friday to Monday, from December 15 to 18, will continue with postponed games, and the championship will return to the 17th round, which started on December 19. .

Mehmet Buyukeksi also said that sanctions against Ankaragucu could be announced on Thursday following incidents after the game with Rizespor (1-1), namely a brutal attack on referee Halil Umut Meler.

Mähler was attacked by Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca, and at the end of the game, club members associated with the same club kicked him in the face and head.

The director, who has since stepped down from leading the Turkish club, and two other suspects in the attack on Umut Meler were arrested in Ankara on charges of “causing bodily harm to a referee in the performance of his duties” and violating the law against violence at the club.
