Four men were arrested on December 10 by the Lisbon PSP at the scene of the crime for stealing two bells from a church in the parish of Arroyos.
The alert was issued by a member of the public who saw one of the suspects with a knife.An angle grinder cut out the supports that held one of the church bells. The police immediately went to the scene.
One of the men was inside the church, while the other three, despite escaping, were intercepted by police. on the terrace of a neighboring house.
Men from The 26, 38, 41 and 57-year-olds broke down the church door and prepared to steal two cast iron bells, approximately 110 years old, worth more than €3,000.
The stolen bells were recovered and taken to the church.
