Two people were killed when a car and a nine-seater van collided with farm workers on Monday morning on Estrada Nacional 387 in Cuba, Beja district.
The accident also resulted in two serious and two minor injuries.
The alarm was raised around 6:44 a.m. The road was closed at 8 a.m., civil defense officials said.
“The collision between the car and van resulted in several injuries which are still being assessed at the scene. The EN387 route is completely closed,” said a source from the Baixo Alentejo sub-regional command.
The victims were taken to Beja Hospital. The cause of the accident could have been poorly calculated overtaking.
Firefighters from Beja, Cuba and Vidigueira, VMER from Beja and Évora and GNR were called to the scene. A total of 29 operators are working on site, supported by 14 vehicles.
