The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 73-year-old man suspected of stealing several works of art and sacred art from the Diocese of Porto, the Criminal Police Service announced this Thursday.
The SP said in a statement that the man was arrested on suspicion of committing skilled theft on an ongoing basis following an investigation by the Northern Division.
According to investigators, the defendant took advantage of the trust he received from the Diocese of Porto to steal “numerous works of art and sacred art” from the organization over several years, with the PS confiscating dozens of these items.
According to the judiciary, the retired detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures deemed appropriate.
