Portugal will end 2023 with 12 athletes from five sports qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, after the International Boccia Federation (BISFED) confirmed the qualification of the Portuguese team from BC1-BC2 on Tuesday.
According to the Portuguese Paralympic Committee (CPP), the qualification of the Portuguese team BC1-BC2 “was secured through a position in the 2023 world rankings, which guaranteed a place in Paris 2024 for the top four teams, excluding the regional champions.” “.
“BISFED has also announced that the Portuguese bocce pair BC3 and BC4 will compete in the Paralympic Games qualifying tournament, which will take place from 22 to 28 March 2024 in Coimbra,” CPP adds.
Team BC1-BC2 will consist of three athletes, at least one athlete from each class (BC1 and BC2) and at least one athlete from each gender (men and women).
Boccia team qualification BC1-BC2 has increased to 12 the number of athletes guaranteed to take part in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will take place from 28 August to 8 September.
In addition to bocce, Portugal has four other representatives in athletics: two in swimming, two in canoeing and one in cycling.
All guaranteed places are non-nominal and will be allocated to athletes based on the selection criteria determined by each sporting federation in conjunction with the CPP.
