Santa Maria Hospital patients with green bracelet waited more than 15 hours

Christmas Eve marked a difficult morning in most emergency departments of Greater Lisbon hospitals.

NHS data on average waiting times indicates periods of several hours during which patients waited to see a doctor.

In Lisbon, at Santa Maria Hospital, waiting times in the emergency department for patients with a green bracelet reached more than 15 hours. In yellow it took over four hours.

Also at Beatriz Angelo in Loures, the wait for a yellow bracelet took more than 12 hours.

In turn, in Vila Franca de Xira, users with a green bracelet waited more than 10 hours, and in Amadora Sintra – more than 13 hours.

The long wait times came at a time when the country was facing a flu epidemic.

At the same time, in almost half of the emergency situations there are restrictions in some specialties due to a shortage of doctors.
