The General Directorate of Arts has provided program support to 18 theaters of the Portuguese Theater and Cinema Network (RTCP) in the second edition of this competition, which will distribute a total of eight million euros, less than the 10 million available.
In a statement published on Wednesday, the Directorate General for the Arts (DGArtes) recalled that eight million will be distributed over four years “as a decisive contribution to ensuring the regular and continuous management of the cultural offer” of the theaters currently covered and which will join to 38 already supported in 2022.
“With this second edition of the competition, support for programming RTCP equipment is strengthened in several regions of the NUTS II country, with the Central region being the region with the greatest increase in support offered (10), followed by the Norte region (4), Alentejo (2) and Algarve (2) “, can be read in the DGArtes statement, which does not list supported theaters and emphasizes the existence of a hearing stage for interested parties.
DGArtes recalled that “the activities proposed for funding under this support program are in the field of programming through the implementation of performing arts projects and, in addition, interdisciplinary and visual arts projects,” and may also include artistic residencies. or mediation and training activities.
Since the competition is held every two years, the next one is scheduled for 2025.
The competition for the second edition of RTCP programming support opened in August, with 10 million available.
Only equipment manufactured outside the municipalities of Lisbon and Porto and which did not receive support between 2022 and 2025 could qualify for this support line.
With the opening of this competition, global investment in support of RTCP programs amounted to 29 million euros, which, according to DGArtes in August, contributes to “a notable contribution to cultural decentralization and territorial cohesion, promoting wider access to the arts.”
RTCP currently includes more than 90 pieces of equipment, 38 of which are supported for programming between 2022 and 2025.
The RTCP was created to combat regional asymmetries and promote “territorial unity in access to culture and the arts in Portugal.”
