This Friday, the President of the Republic unveiled a government charter that regulates the payment of the bonus for a career in the judicial police, but called on the next leader to respond to the “just grievances” of other police forces.
The note published on the president’s website also mentions that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also unveiled a government charter that “leads to an increase in the remuneration of the municipal police.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Souza recalled in the same note that the approval of these diplomas “immediately caused a real wave of discontent and protest on the part of unions and associations representing other classes of security forces, and even their leaders.”
This is about “the alleged unequal treatment of the aforementioned security forces and the alleged disparity and inequality in the values earned by some compared to others,” he stressed.
“There was also a public protest from the Armed Forces associations, as well as from the general judicial police,” he added.
The President of the Republic also left a reminder to the next government of “the just grievances of these other entities, as well as the need and urgency of measures that will continue the work already begun in the current executive.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Souza called on the next leader to “also compensate the members of this force for the efforts, sacrifices and risks they face in carrying out their respective functions, which is especially evident in joint action situations such as border control.”
The new mission allowance for the PJ career was approved by the Council of Ministers at the end of November and in some cases could represent an increase of almost €700 per month.
The announcement of the measure was met with opposition from trade unions associated with the PSP and GNR due to differences in approach from the government.
