The Prime Minister believes there will be an increase in household incomes in 2024, highlighting increases in the minimum wage, pensions, entitlements and cuts to the IRS.
“In 2024, household income will continue to grow,” writes António Costa in messages that he published this Sunday on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on New Year’s Eve.
“The national minimum wage increases to €820, the largest increase ever; pensions are renewed by 5–6%, which is higher than inflation; and the IRS cuts continue to cover all income,” the executive leader asserts.
In his message, the Prime Minister, who resigned from the post on November 7, also indicates that his government in office has pushed back “by two years the increase in the solidarity supplement for older people” to ensure that every pensioner has their income above the poverty threshold.” .
“The family benefit increases by 22 euros per month, and the basic value of the guarantee for children increases to 122 euros per month,” he says.
Also, according to António Costa, IRS Jovem “is strengthening and became 0% in the first year of operation.”
“Students under 23 years of age are now provided with a free pass. For graduates and masters, a salary supplement of 697 euros or 1,500 euros is provided for the first years of work,” the executive director also notes.
However, when it comes to the country’s development next year, the Prime Minister is advocating for his government to step up support for families with housing costs.
“Family Rent Assistance will continue to be paid monthly with an increase of 4.94%; the IRS deduction for rental expenses increases by 20% to €600; “tenants with pre-1990 contracts receive stability in their contracts, and landlords are compensated for rent and exempt from IMI (municipal property tax) and the IRS,” he states.
In a series of messages published this Sunday on Twitter, the Prime Minister also believes that 2024 will mark the beginning of a “new phase of organizational reform of the National Health Service”.
“We have expanded local health centers across the country. In January, we will create 250 Model B family health units, which will allow more than 250 thousand Portuguese to appoint family doctors,” he says.
António Costa also writes that by 2024 his leader has invested in territorial cohesion.
“From January 1, a 30 percent reduction in motorway tolls in the interior and Algarve comes into force, reducing contextual costs in these areas,” he adds.
