For the fifth year in a row, SIC leads the total audience of free-to-air television. Station Paço de Arcos ended 2023 with an average share of 14.9% (an average of 319,300 viewers per minute of broadcast), meaning that out of every 100 viewers who watched TV, almost 15 chose to tune in to channel three. TVI, despite continuing to move closer to the lead, was again in second place with an average share of 14.4% (307.5 thousand viewers), that is, 0.5 percentage points less than SIC. RTP 1 took third place with a share of 11.1% (238,300 viewers). A reference also to RTP 2, which did not exceed 0.9% (18,900 viewers). The figures provided are provided by GfK, the company responsible for measuring the audience of Portuguese television.
Moreover, the year was again marked by a loss of market share for two private channels. Compared to the previous year, SIC lost 1.8 percentage points (pp), TVI fell by 1.3 pp. On the contrary, RTP 1 increased by 0.3 p.p., and RTP 2 by 0.1 p.p.
In the case of SIC, the best month was January (16.4%), and the worst month was August (14%). For TVI, with a share of 15.4%, February was the best and August (13.5%) was the worst. RTP 1 recorded its highest audience in June (12.4%) and lowest in August (10.1%).
“Isto É Gozar Com Quem Trabalha” (SIC) by Ricardo Araújo Pereira was the most watched entertainment program of the year, the soap opera “Festa é Festa” (TVI) was the artistic format with the most viewers, and “Jornal da Noite’ (SIC) was free news program with the largest number of viewers.
