According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), 18 areas of the Portuguese mainland will be under a yellow warning due to a cold weather forecast.
According to the information posted on its website, the IPMA refers to the fact that this Sunday there are three areas – Bragança, Guarda and Vila Real – that are under a yellow warning due to the maintenance of low minimum temperatures to which they join. from 03:00 on Monday the rest of the Portuguese areas.
A yellow alert is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather dependent activities.
Due to the persistence of low minimum temperatures over the next few days, IPMA is placing 18 areas of the mainland under a yellow alert level as of Monday morning.
The IPMA Yellow Alert will remain in effect until 07:00 Wednesday.
Temperatures in Portugal will drop to a low of 5 to -6 degrees from Monday, the organization said, keeping the weather cold until the end of the week.
The IPMA statement said the cold weather is caused by an anticyclone located in northern Europe that “ridges to the Atlantic” and “will carry cold continental air mass to the Iberian Peninsula.”
This “sharp drop in temperatures until Monday the 23rd” should remain “no significant change until the end of the week” and there is no rain forecast yet, according to the meteorological institute.
On Monday, according to IPMA, “Minimum temperatures should range from about 0º to 5º C, being lower in the north and central inland where it will drop to between 0 and -6º C,” also predicting frost formation.
The maximum temperature will also decrease, “predicting values of 10º to 15ºC in most of the territory, and in the interior in the north and center – from 5º to 10ºC.”
