More than 77 patients were hospitalized and nine ambulances were detained. The average wait time for patients with a yellow bracelet is more than five hours. For emergency patients it takes more than two hours.

According to information provided to Lusa by Bayan Fire Department Commander Alexander Pinto, at 12:30 p.m., there were already more than 50 patients in the emergency room of the Padre America Hospital.

The emergency department at the Padre América Hospital is the only medical-surgical care unit in the Tamega e Sousa Hospital Center (CHTS), which also includes the São Gonçalo Hospital in Amarante, which operates a basic emergency department.

In a request for clarification, the hospital said. CM that “the patient mentioned in the news was admitted to the CHTS medical-surgical emergency service at 19:16, underwent Manchester triage at 19:19 and was assessed as priority orange. At 20:06 after a clinical examination, death was declared and recorded.”

The same source reported that this was a “patient at the end of life who did not have clinical criteria for any invasive resuscitative measures.”

“The service is under enormous pressure with the number of patients admitted to the emergency department this morning reaching 85 patients. Such circumstances make the functioning of the service very difficult, not only due to workload, but also due to limited space, which affects normal functioning. However, it should be noted that in this particular case the actions taken would be the same in different circumstances,” he concluded.

According to the Nurses’ Order, there was a “chaotic situation” with dozens of patients in the hospital’s emergency department. “A The situation is chaotic because at this peak of the influenza pandemic, the hospital has no capacity,” Miguel Vasconcelos, president of the Northern Regional Council of the Order of Nurses, told Lusa.
