The PGA chose the American this Wednesday Scottie Schefflercurrent world number 1 and winner of the PLAYERS Championship 2023, as ‘Player of the Year’ of the PGA Tour, having been voted ahead of Jon Rahmfrom the also American Wyndham Clarkfrom Norwegian Viktor Hovland and from Northern Irish Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler thus won the Jack Nicklaus Award for the second consecutive season, being the first to achieve it since his compatriot Tiger Woods won this award three times in a row between 2005 and 2007.
Another American, Eric Colewas named ‘Rookie of the Year’ on the same PGA Tour and received the Arnold Palmer Award. Cole achieved two runner-up finishes in 2023: the Cognizant Classic and the Zozo Championship.
Both awards are determined by member voting, and PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2022/23 season were eligible. “The voting period was extended from December 1 to December 15,” the PGA said on its website.
Scheffler received 38% of the votes for the Jack Nicklaus Award; while Cole obtained 51% of the votes for the Arnold Palmer Award and surpassed the Colombian Nico Echavarría.
