The Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) has clarified that the VAT replacement on a basket of 46 product categories will be the answer “immediately” on Friday, ensuring there are no logistical restrictions.
“The measure ends at the end of working hours and VAT will be reinstated from January 5th. This period has allowed us all to be able to calmly and transparently comply with the law again and reinstate VAT on these products,” APED Director General Gonzalo Lobo Xavier said in a statement to Lusa, clarifying that the tax will be reinstated “immediately.”
Gonçalo Lobo Xavier said that consumers can count on “transparency in the process” and recalled that from the very beginning the prices of the products in question will be increased by 6%.
