The management of Varzim from Football League 3 announced this Thursday their “resignation in full” and said that the outgoing directors had suspended the financial support they provided to the club in their personal capacity.
According to the outgoing management, this measure was taken in connection with the cancellation of the General Assembly. [AG]by decree of the president of the body where the project to create the SAD, which will govern professional football, will be presented and voted on.

In addition to the “mass resignation” announced today to the AG board president, the outgoing directors recalled that, as of December 21, 2023, they have suspended the financial support they have provided to the club since being elected “using your personal assets.”
The outgoing management also felt that the inability of members to express their views on Varzim’s future at this canceled General Meeting “places the club in a very difficult situation”, wishing the future managers “good luck” and offering to provide support during the transition period.
The cancellation of the GA, in which the creation of the SAD would be discussed and voted on with the participation of external investors, was adopted on December 8, 2023, after the body’s president, Moura Gonçalves, indicated that not all information had gathered around the process.
“Management has not provided all the documentation relating to its proposal to transform Varzim SDUK into SAD, while at the same time there are well-founded doubts about the suitability of the documents to highlight certain conditions in the business, especially in relation to beneficial owners and guarantees,” he emphasized in his statement then Head of Varzim AG.
The director believed that “the lack of documentation to support the proposal (…) prevents Varzim members from being able to make decisions in a sufficiently informed, enlightened and balanced manner on the issue of greatest importance to the life of the club. “.
Previously, the Varzinista Council, Varzim’s advisory body made up of former directors, mayors and other members involved in the club’s life, also gave an unfavorable opinion on the contours of the deal.
In a statement today, the outgoing management said it disagreed with “arguments about the lack of documents and doubts about the suitability of the documents to highlight certain business conditions,” assuring that it even added an “independent opinion” from the company’s lawyers.
The outgoing directors also criticized the “climate of mistrust created around the operation in an attempt to influence opinion” and spoke of “irresponsibility on the part of those who did not read the documents” in classifying the decision to cancel the AG as illegal.
The investor interested in acquiring the majority of the share capital of the future Varzima SAD was the Brazilian businessman Ulisses Jorge, the player’s agent who manages, in particular, the career of the central defender Eder Militao, who plays for Real Madrid.
Ulisses Jorge, who has since abandoned the business, committed to pay 4.2 million euros so that by 2026 he would own 53% of the share capital of the future SAD.
