FIFA has suspended former Netherlands international Marc Overmars from world football for at least a year following a sex messaging scandal, the agency said on Wednesday. Reuters.
According to information provided by the Dutch club, Ajax’s then sporting director resigned from his position in June 2022 due to “a series of inappropriate messages sent to several colleagues over a long period of time.”
The former football player immediately admitted the mistake. “I feel embarrassed. (…) I apologize. Indeed, for a person in my position, such behavior is unacceptable,” said Marc Overmars.
In November 2023 The Dutch sports court ordered the coach to be suspended from all football-related duties for two years, one of them suspended. The decision taken this Wednesday by FIFA extends the ban to the entire world of football.
