The Portuguese dressage team will take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and will be represented by three riders who will also take part in individual competitions, the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) confirmed this Wednesday.
“Team Portugal has just received another quota for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with confirmation of the qualifications of the dressage team by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). The qualification of the dressage team means that Portugal will bring three riders to Paris 2024 to compete in dressage competitions. participate in both the team competition and the individual competition,” the KS said.
Thus, the place won by Maria Cayetano in the individual dressage competition is “replaced” by the quota achieved by the team.
“The qualification of the Portuguese team followed a redistribution of places administered by the FEI: one was not used, and another was not taken by Brazil because it did not meet the minimum qualification requirements,” the Olympic organization explains.
Portugal will have two equestrian quotas in the French capital as Duarte Sebra also secured a national presence in steeplechase events at the Olympics.
Currently the number of sports offered by the Portuguese Mission in Paris in 2024 is nine, with 25 quotas equivalent to 29 athletes – men’s road cycling (bike and time trial), K2 500 (canoeing), mixed class 470. (sailing) two athletes are represented, and now three athletes compete from the dressage team.
