Temperatures set to drop even further in Portugal

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts temperatures could drop to -7°C in Trax-os-Lots on Friday. .

This Thursday, lows of between 1 and 6° C are expected across most of the area, with lows in the north and center dropping to between -5° and 0° C. Only a slight rise on Saturday. Temperatures are expected and “should persist over the coming days.” Taking into account the forecasts, some local authorities have activated emergency plans, for example in Lisbon or Leiria. In the capital, the Casal Vistoso pavilion operates as a reception center with 100 beds and guarantees hot meals. On the first night, 35 beds were occupied. Companion animals are also covered.

“The cold requires caution. In addition to respiratory infections, viruses are a serious problem because they “like” these temperatures. The cold air we breathe suppresses our defenses. We are vulnerable,” he explains. CM Dr. Rui Nogueira.

LISBON METRO STATIONS

The capital has four metro stations open at night, at least until early Sunday morning: Odivelas, Oriente, Santa Apolónia and Rossio. The goal is to provide a more secure location.
