A 28-year-old man was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of attempting to kill his landlord while he was trying to collect rent, in Vila Nova de Milfontes, municipality of Odemira (Beja), as announced. this Thursday.
The SP said in a statement that the suspect was arrested by members of the Department of Criminal Investigations (DIC) of Portimão for attempted murder, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Vila Nova de Milfontes area.
“When the victim, a 60-year-old man, approached the attacker with the intention of demanding from him the amount corresponding to the rent of the house, an argument ensued between them,” he said.
According to the SP, the alleged attacker took advantage of the victim’s distraction and “pushed her down the stairs corresponding to the 1st floor, causing her to fall sharply.”
Then, as the criminal investigation department reported, the man “went down the stairs and, already next to the victim, in prostration and unable to react, attacked her several times in the skull with a blunt object.”
As a result of the attacks, the victim suffered “multiple injuries and traumatic brain injuries” who was “at risk of death and was taken to the hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit,” he added.
The unemployed detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation to apply possible coercive measures.
The investigation is being conducted by the prosecutor’s office – Odemir’s department.
