Eight flights diverged and three were canceled due to bad weather in Madeira

Eight flights to Madeira, operated by several companies and arriving from different European cities, diverted this Saturday to other airports or returned to their points of departure due to bad weather affecting the southern coast of the island.

According to information available on the ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal website, Madeira International Airport, located in Santa Cruz in the east, experienced serious difficulties in the morning with eight flights forced to diverge before 12:00 and three were cancelled. flights (two departures and one arrival).

The southern coast of Madeira and mountainous areas are under an orange warning today for rainfall from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.

According to a note sent by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the orange warning, the second most severe on a scale of three, is caused by “sometimes heavy rain that may be accompanied by thunderstorms.”
