Newcastle want to overcome competition from Chelsea and sign Ousmane Diomande, the Sporting centre-back, in the coming days.
British newspaper The Mirror guarantees the Magpies will soon be in Lisbon to sign the 20-year-old Ivorian. Sporting will only agree to perform if the €80 million clause involved in the termination of the contract is involved. The English press are even saying that Newcastle could reach these figures, which would break the club’s record purchase of €70 million paid for Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad last season.
The player plays for Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations and could further increase his price. He started the first game of the competition with a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau.
Diomande arrived at Alvalade in the 2022/23 season from Midtjylland (he played the first half of the season at Mafra, on loan from the Danes). It cost 9.5 million euros (7.5 for the transfer and two for goals achieved during this time).
