Iraq’s national security adviser on Tuesday accused Iran of making “false and incorrect claims” about the “presence of Israeli Mossad headquarters” in Erbil to justify an attack on the Kurdistan region city.
“As for the presence of Mossad headquarters [serviços secretos] Israelis, we toured the place and visited every corner of the house. “Everything indicates that this is the family home of an Iraqi businessman,” Qasem al-Araji told local channel K24 during a visit to Iraqi Kurdistan.
“These accusations are false and incorrect,” said al-Araji, who is in charge of investigating Iranian missile launches by the Iraqi government.
On Monday evening, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, carried out an attack on the outskirts of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
According to IRNA, the missiles destroyed the “headquarters” from which Israeli intelligence services operated. Israel has not yet responded to the accusations.
Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Nassir Abdel Mohsen, the ambassador to Tehran, “for consultations” following rocket attacks carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

On Tuesday, the Iraqi ministry also summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Baghdad to deliver a “letter of protest” following Iranian Revolutionary Guard missile attacks in the autonomous Kurdistan Region.
In a letter delivered to Chargé d’Affaires Abol Fadl Azizi, Iraq “condemns the aggression carried out against several sectors of Erbil, which resulted in civilian casualties,” according to a statement from the Iraqi diplomat.
“The aggression is a flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty, which violates (…) international law and threatens the security of the region,” the same source said.
Earlier, the Iraqi government condemned Tehran’s missile attacks on the autonomous Kurdistan region in the north of the country, which it regarded as “an aggression aimed at the sovereignty of Iraq and the safety of the population.”
Iraqi authorities will “take all necessary legal measures,” including “a complaint to the UN Security Council,” following the attacks, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in its first statement.
Iraqi diplomacy also announced the creation of a commission of inquiry to prove to “Iraqi and international public opinion that the allegations of those responsible for these reprehensible acts are false.”
