The IPMA statement explained that the depression, which is moving “gradually eastward,” is associated with “an unstable tropical air mass with high water vapor content that is already affecting the regions of continental Central and Southern Portugal, sometimes with severe climatic conditions.” precipitation”.
In addition to precipitation, forecasts indicate “thunderstorms and convective bursts” are possible until late Friday morning.
The IPMA also forecast snowfall at the highest points of the Serra da Estrela from early Friday morning, “which should accumulate above 1400/1600 metres, gradually decreasing to 1200/1400 metres”.
In addition, winds are expected to increase “on the coast south of Cape Mondego and in mountainous areas, especially in the Center and South, with gusts of up to 70 km/h,” the report said.
As a result, IPMA adds that rainfall and snow warnings have been issued.
The areas of Lisbon, Évora, Castelo Branco, Faro, Setúbal, Santarem, Leiria, Beja and Portalegre have already been issued a yellow warning for rainfall. The yellow warning will remain in effect until 09:00 Friday.
The areas of Guarda and Castelo Branco will be under a yellow snow warning from 03:00 to 12:00 on Friday.
A yellow warning is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.
The Juan Trench will not affect the weather in the Madeira and Azores archipelagos.
