The Pope granted amnesty to more than a thousand PSP and GNR professionals

The amnesty, announced in connection with Pope Francis’ visit to Portugal on World Youth Day 2023, covers more than a thousand security forces, including the PSP and GNR.

The PSP has 10 reprimands, 95 fines and 43 disqualifications. Among the PPR personnel, 285 soldiers took advantage of the amnesty. In most cases, prison sentences of up to 30 days were overturned. The joint venture did not provide clarification on this topic.

If at the criminal level the amnesty applied only to offenders under the age of 30, then at the disciplinary level the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic did not establish any restrictions.

Most cases involve minor infractions that result in fines or reprimands, such as failure to maintain service standards or on-duty traffic accidents, according to industry unions.
