Prosecutors on Monday requested a 20-year sentence for Daniel Pietro, 40, accused of killing his 30-year-old companion and leaving her naked body in the bushes in Penafiel. The defense of the accused, who is in prison, stated that there was no evidence of a qualified murder and asked that he be acquitted of this crime, punishing him for desecrating a corpse and domestic violence.
“The defendant played a prank, gave an unreasonable explanation. Everything that has been shown and said indicates that it was he who took Sandra’s life. The punishment can never be lower than 20 years,” the prosecutor said. The defense argued that the autopsy report did not state what led to the woman’s death. “Documentary evidence has left doubts, and witness statements do not prove anything.” Sandra Rocha died in February 2022 and her body was found 12 days after her death in the bush.
