The President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) reaffirmed this Monday the organization’s commitment to combating match-fixing and protecting integrity in sport, welcoming the entry into force of the football integrity regime Sport.
“Integrity in sport is the structural axis of our activities and this law responds to many concerns that we have expressed over the years to the political and judicial authorities, as well as to all political parties who have now unanimously approved this law,” Fernando said. The Sporting Integrity and Unsportsmanlike Conduct Regime came into force on Friday, bringing together all existing rules relating to criminal and disciplinary offenses arising from sporting corruption and manipulation.
The regime is considering the creation of a National Platform against the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, a new body that works together with the National Anti-Corruption Unit of the Judicial Police (UNCC), in which the FPF is the only federation having a seat, along with other sports movement experts appointed by the Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) and the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ).
A senior PPF official also emphasized the importance of the approval of this new regime: “Together, under the auspices of the National Anti-Corruption Unit of the SP, which is responsible for coordinating the new Platform, we will be able to fight all forms of corruption in the country.” sport and defend the ethical values of sport.
