Saudi football club Al Nasr’s friendly games in China were postponed on Tuesday due to the absence of Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo due to physical problems.
Organizers of the matches, which the Saudis will face Shanghai Shenhua and Zhejiang on Wednesday and Sunday respectively, said Ronaldo’s “physical condition does not allow him to play.”
The Portuguese striker’s absence thus led to the postponement of the games, with the Portuguese mentioned at the press conference apologizing to the Chinese fans and expressing “sadness” at his absence.
“As you know, in football there are things you can’t control,” he said.
Despite the postponement, Al-Nasr traveled to China with Ronaldo and issued a statement on Tuesday expressing his readiness to continue training camps on Chinese soil until new dates are found.
Between the end of the month and the beginning of February, the Saudis compete in a private competition in Riyadh, hosting Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, with the aim of facing off against the Portuguese star.
