The German club became aware of this incident thanks to an audio recording recorded by teammates. Within 24 hours, the academy’s management withdrew two players with a history of making derogatory comments about people of different backgrounds and religions.
RB Leipzig condemned the incident as “extremely unsporting and unacceptable behaviour”. “The behavior described has not been and will not be accepted or tolerated,” the club clarified, without disclosing the identities of the players.
