The body of Alfonso Lopez Benito, 80, was discovered by a doorman with signs of suffocation on Tuesday on the bed of the house where he lived, after being alerted by a friend of the priest as he could not make contact with him. Neighbors had already reported to authorities and the Bishop of Valencia that several young people were frequenting the rectory, especially in vulnerable situations and with limited resources. They complained about noise and petty robberies. Alfonso Lopez Benito attracted the attention of the bishop of his diocese, but he maintained his behavior. Police are investigating and collecting additional information to determine the motive for the crime.
