Uruguayan midfielder Zalazar said on Monday that Sporting Braga has the qualities and capabilities to become one of the top three players in the Portuguese Football League.
At the entrance to the Legian de Ouro gala, which concludes the celebration of the club’s 103rd anniversary, Zalazar, when asked whether Sporting Braga has the quality and ability to enter the top three of the championship, replied: “Yes, there are still a few days left for us we’ll beat Sporting [1-0, na meia-final da Taça da Liga], which is the leader of the championship. We have players of great quality and experience and we will fight for it.”
Zalazar admitted that “adaptation [ao Sporting de Braga e ao futebol português] it was a little difficult because German football is completely different,” but the help of his teammates and staff helped him through the process and “they are already seeing a new Zalazar in the last few months.”
The midfielder left plenty of praise for his teammate Joao Moutinho.
“It’s wonderful to play next to him, it seems like the years don’t pass by him, he runs for 90 minutes like he’s 20 years old. The way he plays, the way he understands football has helped me improve a lot and he’s a great person,” he said.
Goalkeeper Thiago Sa, who trained at Sporting Braga, expressed his “joy” at the moment of celebration and the growth of the club.
“This is the feeling that comes to my mind the most. I am a man at home and when I arrived there was nothing like this at Sporting Braga. This is a huge pride. We are here at this event and at these sites. and when I arrived, in 2004, Sporting Braga had nothing and had gone from being a mid-table club to one that was fighting for the top places in the table and for titles. As a young man from the city and a player at this club for many years, I’m very happy about this. We must maintain this demand and always, whenever possible, with our feet on the ground, increase it in order to continue to climb several steps,” he said.
The goalkeeper renewed his contract at the end of last season but has been underused this season – playing just one game in the Portuguese Cup with Rebordoza – and has often been left out of the squad.
“I extended my contract to help the club when needed. When they call me, and I already have, I will say this. It was with this intention that I decided to stay. My contract was coming to an end and I decided to stay, a decision that was thought through by me and my family,” he said.
Thiago Sa admitted that he would like to play more, but reinforced: “I know exactly how I was renewed, what the circumstances were. Everything was very open, especially because of my relationships and many years spent at home. A fundamental player in the locker room? If this had not been the case, I don’t think the extension would have even been proposed. We have a group of very quality goalkeepers led by Matheus. I know how important I am in the locker room. room and in the club.”
Centre-back Paulo Oliveira noted the club’s growth and recent League Cup victory, which he believes will allow them to “capitalize on the competence” of Sporting Braga.
“It was good, tasty and important for the club, but it’s in the past. We are here celebrating our club, we have shown the ability to fight at the highest level and that we have the weapons to face any team,” he said.
