Porto City Council is working with municipal police to take action to close off access to sanitation facilities in the Parque da Pasteira, which are used by addicts to use drugs, it emerged on Wednesday.
In a conversation with Lusa, the Porto City Council said that both the Porto municipal police and the municipal department of green space and infrastructure management were “aware of the reported vicissitudes.”
On Tuesday, Porto Canal published videos of drug addicts using drugs inside a sanitation facility in Pasteleira Park.
“This episode will be repeated and there will be reports that consumers are also using the sewerage for overnight stays,” Porto Canal added.
The municipality says it is working with the municipal police to take measures to mitigate the situation, “namely closing access to sewers and promoting increased policing.”
“We will continue to monitor this situation,” he says, also noting that the capital’s PSP Porto command has been informed of the situation so that policing on the ground can be stepped up.
