The National Federation of Education announces a nationwide strike on February 8

The National Federation of Education (FNE) announced this Wednesday that it will call a national strike on Feb. 8 and will join, starting Wednesday, the county strikes originally called by a platform of eight union organizations.

“All these FNE strikes are further proof that the federation is fully in line with the just demands of the Portuguese educators and teachers, who, despite the lack of measures to recognize and strengthen guardianship, continue to appreciate and respect the profession they have taken,” the statement reads.

Last week, the trade union organization, which is one of the most representative in the industry, has already admitted the possibility of districts called by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) together with seven other unions to join the strike.

FNE gave five days’ notice starting February 1st. A strike is planned for the day in the district of Santarém, followed by Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.

On February 8, instead of joining the strike in the Porto area that ended the 18-day shutdown, the FNE holds a nationwide strike.

“For the FNE, the Ministry of Education is unable to bring concrete proposals to the negotiating table on the assessment of teaching career and seniority,” says the federation, which has already threatened to withdraw from negotiations if the guardianship does so. not present a decision at the next meeting, even though its Secretary General acknowledged that some of the proposals on the recruitment and mobility regime were positive.

Now FNE writes that “proposals to change the competition regime not only fail to guarantee improvements and refinements of the model, but also introduce additional factors of instability and injustice.”

Of the 12 trade union organizations that are involved in negotiations with the Ministry of Education, 10 are on strike in February: the Union of All Education Workers (STOP) with an indefinite strike that has been going on since December, the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators with a partial strike that began at the beginning of the 2nd period, a district strike, and a nationwide strike from February 1 to 3 called by the National Union of Licensed Teachers.

On Saturday, there will be a demonstration of education professionals organized by STOP, and another protest is scheduled for February 11, convened by a platform of eight trade union organizations, which will also be joined by FNE.
