The I League football match between Famalicão and Sporting, postponed this Saturday due to the absence of police at the Minho stadium, will have to take place within the next four weeks, in accordance with the Competition Regulations.
According to paragraph 1 of Article 46 of the regulations, “when, for random reasons or force majeure, the conditions for the start or end of the game are not met, it will take place or end – at the same stadium, within the near future.” 30 hours.”
However, paragraph “d” of the same article states that a match may not take place within the next 30 hours if “the safety of sports agents or spectators is at stake, as duly demonstrated by the commander of the security forces”, in other words, exactly that. which has already been announced by the PSP and the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP).
Thus, using article 42 regarding competition calendars, number 3 contains information that “after the start of the second round, rescheduled games must be played during the same week or, if one of the clubs has to play another match in the official national championship.” or UEFA or FIFA international tournaments this week, and in the event of a national team match being played and players being called up from any of the participating clubs, within the next two weeks.”
Since Sporting had scheduled a “game of official national competition” for Wednesday, in this case against Unio de Leiria, in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, the regulations in paragraph 4 of the same article guarantee that the meeting cannot be played during the week after the postponement.
“In the situations provided for in paragraph 3, at the request of the participating clubs, the Portuguese League will allow the postponed game to be played within the next four weeks if, in aggregate: a) there have been no games in question in the last six rounds; and b) the Standing Committee on Calendars will decide in favor,” the document says.
Thus, Famalican-Sporting from the 20th round of the I League can play within the next four weeks.
However, the Lions’ fixture schedule for the month of February will not make things any easier given that Alvalade’s side have six matches scheduled for February, most of them with a maximum of four days between matches.
On Wednesday (February 7), Sporting visit Unian Leiria for the Portuguese Cup and later play back-to-back Braga (11) in League One with Young Boys (15) in the first leg of the Europa League. -off, against Moreirense (19), in the first league, again with Young Boys (22), in the second leg of the European playoffs, and with Rio Ave (25), for the championship.
Given the four-week deadline, the match in Famalicana could be played after the meeting with Vila Condences and before the match with Farense from the I League, scheduled for March 3. However, in this window of days, Sporting could play the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final on February 28 if they beat Unio de Leiria in the quarters and progress further in the queen competition.
The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) confirmed this Saturday the postponement of the Famalican-Sporting match from the I League and asked the government to take action against the absence of the police at the match of the 20th round. Scenes of violence between fans occurred outside of Minho Stadium.
“The Portuguese League informs that the game between Famalican and Sporting concerning the 20th round of the Portuguese League Betclic has been postponed by agreement between the clubs to a date yet to be determined, after receiving information from the person in charge of the police reported on Municipal Stadium of Famalican, that there are no security conditions for the event that will take place this Saturday or tomorrow [domingo]”, the message says.
Denying the incidents that took place near the Famalicão municipal stadium, the Club League “demands that the government, especially the Minister of the Interior, urgently open an investigation to determine responsibility for what happened, in order to protect the fans.” and families.”
Likewise, the National Directorate of Public Security Police (PSP) said it was surprised by the abnormal number of agents on sick leave, which led to the postponement of the match.
The Lusa agency contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), which has so far declined to comment.
