Trump had argued in a landmark court case that he was immune from criminal charges for actions he said were part of his responsibilities as president, but Tuesday’s decision invalidated that assertion.
Donald Trump is expected to appeal the court’s decision, which could lead to the case reaching the Supreme Court. With
US adviser Jack Smith accused Trump of conspiring to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory and of fraudulently staying in office.
According to the BBC, the trial in the case was originally scheduled for March 4, but was postponed pending a decision on the immunity request.
