This Wednesday, the National Maritime Authority and the Navy advised extra caution at sea and in coastal areas, given the deteriorating weather conditions and rough seas predicted in the coming days.
In a statement, the Maritime Authority said forecasts indicate worsening weather conditions and rough seas on the Portuguese mainland from 00:00 Thursday to 06:00 Monday.
During this period, swell can reach six meters and a maximum height of 10 meters, and winds can reach average intensity of up to 80 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h.
Given the forecasts, the National Maritime Administration and the Navy recommend “a state of constant vigilance at sea and in coastal areas and warn that caution is required both when preparing to go to sea and while at sea or in coastal areas.” “We do not recommend taking walks by the sea, along the coast, on cliffs, or engaging in recreational activities in areas subject to rough seas and recreational fishing, especially near rocks and cliff areas.
They also recommend strengthening berths and “closely monitoring moored and anchored vessels.”
This Wednesday, the National Office of Emergency Management and Civil Protection also issued a warning to the population regarding the risk of flooding due to the forecast of rain in the next 48 hours, recommending appropriate behavior and basic preventive measures.
